How is started vs now...
My art journey has been a wild ride, a mix of everything from freelance illustration to tattooing. It's all about evolving, rolling with the punches, and finding inspiration in weird places.
It all began with a passion for creativity...
Even in high school (2007), my heart belonged to design and visual arts. This led to a Certificate IV in Design at TAFE (2008) and a Bachelor of Interactive Design at university (2009-2013). University was a launchpad. I worked at an art store, transcribed lecture notes, and started my own art/jewellery label, selling at markets and online. I even freelanced for fashion brands globally, laying the groundwork for my future as an independent artist. Travel broadened my horizons and fueled my creative spirit.
After graduating in 2013, I embraced freelance illustration, launching Creep Heart in 2014. Building a brand that sold to retailers globally and travelling around Australia to exhibit was exhilarating. The NEIS program provided invaluable support. This period was a whirlwind of creativity and entrepreneurship.
In 2017, I returned to Brisbane and established the Creep Heart and Vector Etch studio. My path took a turn when I started working for Vector Etch, which, while offering stability, led to a period where I temporarily stopped drawing and honed in on my business skills.
2019 was a year of personal and professional growth. I worked at Vector Etch while exploring other avenues. Working for PhysiPole reignited my passion for movement and performance, leading to competitions and even circus training. I also completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training. Travels provided further inspiration.
The start of 2020 brought changes. I left Vector Etch and transitioned to becoming a full-time artist in July, a pivotal moment.
From 2021 to 2023, I pursued my passion for art, tattooing and business, honing my skills at various studios and trading at events around Australia. This period was a whirlwind of creative exploration and personal growth, marked by significant milestones in both my artistic and entrepreneurial pursuits.
So, here I am in 2025, ready for whatever's next. My journey has shown me how important passion, resilience, and taking chances are. I can't wait to see what happens, knowing my art will keep changing and reflecting everything I've experienced.
